Well it's been six months now since we rescued little Aku and all appears to be good, however we would like some opinions from some more experienced keepers on how he looks.
He seems to be enjoying his habitat as every night he will burrow into the substrate, then pop his head out in the...
Hi, it's a complete ikea cabinet with sliding glass doors. The only modification I had to make was to re-enforce the back with a piece of marine plywood so it could take the weight of the substrate. We then lined it with a shower curtain and we were done. It seems to work great, wished it could...
Gentle rubbing with the toothbrush in warm water while soaking him, along with a dose of olive oil as @Yvonne G suggested has worked a treat. No more white water stains on his shell. Thanks so much for the advice. ??

From reading other threads I thought they might be burn marks but the temp of his basking lamp is spot on at his shell height, however as we've only had him a couple of...
Hi and thanks for the advice and kind words, today my wife removed all of the stones smaller than his head so we should hopefully have solved that potential issue.
Yes he's started to show alot more character the last couple of days as my wife has been taking videos of him investigating where...
Right OK that makes me feel a bit better then, as he is fine for about 5mins just sitting there, and then he's just trying to climb the walls out. It makes me feel really bad as I feel I'm stressing out with it, but if it's fairly normal, wi not cause him major stress and could be classed as his...
Indeed, if we decide to be custodians of these amazing animals, or any animal to be fair, then we feel its our duty to provide them the best possible care. And it's bloody good fun too!?
