According to what was said to me, the tortoise lives outside year round, hibernates from November till late March, lives in West Bulgaria. For the nightly shelter, I will have to ask.

Edit : My friend informed me their tortoises live outside, one shady and one sunny side in their backyard, they get soaked twice a week.
