    Outdoor Sulcata Enclosure

It has been some time since we posted to the forum. Our beloved Hatch who we had for year and a half was able to wiggle his way out of his outdoor enclosure and we have not been able to find him. We are hopeful that he is exploring the world on his own time and will be home soon a traveled and...

    Tortoise grazing mix

I was a bit worried that my young Sulcata was not taking to the new diet as easily as I thought. Recently, I purchased a bag of grassland tortoise grazing mix and planted it in a plastic saucer. It grew well and has since been placed in the habitat. Hatch didn't take to it for about a week and I...

    Germination in about 30 hours!!

Congrats! I ordered some grassland grazing mix and last Saturday I planted two saucers. It was exactly one week until this weekend when I was able to place it in the Sulcata enclosure. It looks fresh and is fairly low maintenance. I see a few spots that appear to have been nibbled. I'm not...

Has your Leo ever scared you?

My baby Sulcata gets "relaxed" from time to time and has certainly appeared lifeless... It freaked me out on more than one occasion. Good to hear this is a sign of a comfortable tort. Otherwise he is active and hungry !

    Portable/ collapsible Sulcata PlayPen

Supervised for sure... morning coffee in hand. I was just a bit tired of chasing him around the yard 8-) Don't think he is old enough for extended time but when he gets there I will rebuild or add some protection (mesh netting)? and a shade spot

    Portable/ collapsible Sulcata PlayPen

Felt like my young Hatch needed a bit more sun time. For $11.00 I built this pen that can be easily stored. The plan is for him to have at least 30 min / day of nice morning sun. Collapsed:

    Considering a Leo

Thanks all... Sounds like we have a ways to go before he spends extended periods outside. @Tom - he is still < 3 in so I think we are ok for the next couple months in the 40 GA (it is more than 10x his length and 6x in width and helps keep humidity 8-)

    Considering a Leo

Thank you all... He goes outside 3 or 4 times a week for supervised sunlight and play time now. I think maybe when he is 7 or 8 inches he can start spending the majority of the time outside. We will secure some of the yard. We live in Las Vegas Nevada so for a good part of the year the...

    Considering a Leo

I mentioned before.... Do you all recommend that once "hatch" is out of his 40gal and into the yard, that it can be repurposed for a Leo until he is big enough to go into the yard ? "hatch" is 6 months now. When càn he take up outdoor residence ? Thanks Baca
