  • Possibly the easiest place to raise Sulcatas is Florida. You don't have to worry about the temperature or humidity for about 9 months of the year. Here's my boys this morn eating edible hibiscus, dandelions and baby carrots right out of the farm soil.
If I had followed some of the advice I was given, both by boys would be dead. Use common sense!!!
If I had one word of advice for members it would be to NOT treat every word you read as GOSPEL. There is no cookie-cutter advice for raising torts the same as raising kids.
The weather is great so most days I'm able to take the cover off their pen. I've seen them interact with both domestic and farm animals.
Okay, I've been gone for a while because of family sickness where my wife has been diagnosed with terminal ALS. I Also have my animal sanctuary to manage and not surprisingly most of my employees/family have now found other interests. But since this is a tortoise site, that is where my focus needs to be. Everyone said don't have two. Well, I have Flash and Sully and they are growing like weeds.
    Boys are outside, finally

If you start a post there is a icon up above where you write that looks like a mountain if you press on that you can take a pic or show one you already have.
I have started combining my sulcata's daily soak with their hour of daily sunshine. What a difference. They eat better. Their body secretions have certainly increased. :)) And their activity level is amazing. Has anyone else ever tried this?

    Nice
I know I am terrible at posting but with the weather getting a little better I wanted to post a 3 month update. Sulcata's Sully and Flash are doing great. Have Quadrupled in size. Care has been relatively simple. Soaks 3-5 times a week. Diet consists of a variety of collards, dandelions, yellow squash , spring mix vegetables, and zucchini. They don't seem to appreciate any store bought products.

My only stress now is finding a suitable outdoor run that I can either buy or build. Most of the wooden ones won't survive the Florida humidity.
I still can't post pictures. What am I doing wrong?

No one thought it important enough to tell me that sometimes they like to stretch out to bask.

Oh yeah. Oliver loves to stretch out under his heat lamp in the morning whole munching on his greens
OK TORT PEOPLE, you are supposed to be teaching me. I've been the proud parent of Sully and Flash (two Sulcatas) for less than a week now.
