Need to rehome 2yo Sulcata DFW TX

Creeper my 2.5yo sulcata may need a new home. I have been trying for 3 years to get plants to grow on my property and it just isn’t happening. In this last freeze here in Texas I lost ALL my hibiscus, 1 rose, and my entire clover and grass patch. I live on a HEAVILY treed lot with very sandy...

    Preparations for Moving Day!!

We are about one week out from moving Creeper to his outside home! His outdoor enclosure has been finished for over a week but due to the weight and bad weather last week in Texas, we had to wait for assistance to move it. But the ground is mostly leveled with a slight dip for rain drainage, we...

Making my own fall/winter seed mix

Yeah my only worry is what will and won’t grow in my yard. I tried a seed mix from tortoise supply last year and the ONLY seed that took was the cowpeas.

Making my own fall/winter seed mix

So while I’m prepping my outdoor enclosure I’m also trying to prep my entire yard. I have extremely sandy soil, like think beach sand. It’s easy to grow things in, it’s hard to keep them growing. I’ve been doing a lot of reading on fixing my soil and one way was to plant cover crops. Which is...

    Moving outside and preventing pyramiding

Yeah it’s a panel! I just call it a mat because it looks like a mat. But it is not meant for floor mounting. It’s the type meant for baby chicks.

    Single Tortoise Night Box

Yeah I just feel like that will cut down on my electric usage!

    Single Tortoise Night Box

So hubby and I already have all the materials we need except the insulation and caulk. But we were wondering if we should start with a smaller opening since our Sully is only 6lbs right now, and cut it out larger as he grows? Obviously keeping the door/ramp itself and the freezer sheets still at...

    Moving outside and preventing pyramiding

Also the heat mat is a radiant heat mat I planned to put on top, not for the tort to lay on! I’ll look into the Kane mats!

    Moving outside and preventing pyramiding

Oh you think so?? Even if the CHE is only above the bucket and attached to a thermostat?

    Moving outside and preventing pyramiding

Oh it’s full sun in winter!! I’m just planning to bring him in for winter if it gets as bad as it did last year. I already have a big heating pad that will be on a thermostat for the hide, also considering attaching my CHE out there. I never thought of a water bucket though.. which I feel silly...

    Moving outside and preventing pyramiding

I’ll be growing grass and hays in the enclosure so luckily it will be watered daily and in morning and night in the hot summer. It’s also a very shady area so I’m hoping it will retain moisture better. The area used to be my veggie garden.

    Moving outside and preventing pyramiding

Hey guys so it’s been a while since I asked a question here. Creeper is finally ready to move into a small outdoor enclosure. We have a 20x30 section of our yard fenced off and are preparing it for him. And also getting started on his outdoor house. For now he will only stay outside for the fall...

    Pyramiding after growth spurt

Hey guys I haven’t been on here in a while. I’m getting a bit concerned with how much Creeper started pyramiding in the last 2 months. They shot up over double weight, and grew almost 2 inches(between width and length together). I started noticing the potential for pyramiding when we had that...

    Spring is here!

Anyone else have some happy guys now that the weather is getting warmer!? This is the 2nd day Creeper gets to be outside since mid November! His outdoor enclosure got filled with rain, so he is in my recently seeded tortoise food garden until it dries out.

    No soaks for a week

Thanks guys! Just making sure I don’t need to do anything extra to get him back to where he was. Luckily we only lost power one day and still had hot water in our water heater, so I was able to use that to keep temps up in the enclosure. Lowest they were getting was 65 overnight.

    No soaks for a week

So due to our bad weather here in Texas and the energy crisis we weren’t able to soak Creeper for a week. He is only about 5-6 months old. I’m already noticing a couple minor issues. The start of some very minor pyramiding, and the urates are very chalky. I have him soaking now and am able to...

    Our Power is Out ?

Texas here as well, we just lost our power as well. Luckily my tortoise is in a fully sealed enclosure. But temps have already dropped to 74 in his hide and 68 in the rest. Hoping our house doesn’t get too cold.

    Daily urates

Ok so I’ve been a bit concerned. The past two weeks my sulcata baby Creeper has had urates daily during his soak. He usually has them maybe once every 3 weeks. But he suddenly has a huge shell growth and is. Now eating almost twice as much. Which means twice as much waste and now the urates...
