I put them in the incubator on August 31st and they began hatching on November 7th. Their was nearly a week between the time when the first one pipped and the last one hatched.
Well it turns out there were tortoises in there. They were just waiting for me to leave on a business trip to hatch. The first one is out and a second is pipping. My wife keeps sending me pictures. I think this first one is a pretty good looker.
Bummer...because that's what all of my eggs look like now.
I had found these egg candling pictures and thought they gave me hope because they all look just like the last stages here. http://andrewgeckos.weebly.com/egg-candling.html
Alright, first timer here realizing that waiting for redfoot eggs to hatch gives new meaning to the word "patience."
My eggs have gone from visible veining, embryo development and even movement (as in the first picture) to being clear on the top and dark on the bottom (as in the second...
I don't see any air space, not sure they're far enough along. They glow pink, there is veining, and a darker mass on one side which I am assuming is the tortoise embryo. Right now I've got that side down since I'm assuming based on other clutches that the tortoise develops on the bottom. But...

So I wish I had read these reviews here a month ago when I ordered seed. Still have no seed. No confirmation. No response to two emails. No refund of money.
Just received 1.2 Eastern Hermann's breeding group from Chris at Garden State Tortoise. It was a great transaction. Chris was quick to respond, friendly, and informative. The tortoises arrived in great shape and are now acclimating to their new home. I highly recommend working with Chris and...
Thanks to all. Quick question. For a heater in the hide box would you all recommend a radiant style heater or a ceramic style heater. I think the ceramic heaters might be a little more expensive to run but may do a better job of maintaining the temp on cold nights. I do wonder if the heated...
I've been lurking on here for a while now but thought I'd post a little video of my new Redfoot enclosure. I've learned so much from the ideas of others on here that I thought maybe someone would find something useful in what I've done for my two adult Redfoots Lumber and Lucy. If any of you...
