Sorry about skipping the details. He is a Marginated tortoise. Roughly 4 years old, size is around 7-8" (I measure compared to my hand). I am making a 4'x8'. It is a closed cell PVC board. that way it won't rot. I do plan on having a long side no widows at all. Instead do spray foam shelves for...
So I am making my tortoise a new cage. I have done it in the past, but this next one will be bigger than what they need so hopefully it will be good for more than a few years.
I am thinking of using sliding glass doors to allow access. I did it before, and he kept trying to climb through the...
Thank you. I agree, the outdoor enclosure would be best for summer months. But I am going through some personal stuff and have to move out. I do plan on getting a wagon and taking him for a walk this summer though.
Not at all. He will still be in his enclosure. I know better than to let him free roam. I am making him a new enclosure with that PVC (correct type that won't harm him) at 4'x8'. High walls so I can have about 5 inches of dirt so he can dig. Just an empty room with his enclosure, and some models...
I have a marginted tortoise, he is about 2 years old. I am looking to move apartments. Currently he is in the spare room where I work from home (and play videogames). He sees me and I see him, for about 12 hours a day. What I am wondering is: would he be okay if I kept him alone in an empty room...
So my marginated tortoise randomly sprinted. I'm not talking about running, but sprinting. The fastest I've seen him move. Is is about 1 year and 10 months old. His cage/area is 7ft x 3ft. Temps and humidity are normal. Basking bulb on one side and he can cool off at the other side. Normal diet...
So mine grew like crazy within the first year. I recommend building a closed one way before you need it. I just build a 76"x24" closed. He loves it, but it took longer than I thought to make it.
Got it. Thank you. He is roughly that size, but a fraction of that pyramiding. I have two humidity gages, one by basking and other in the cool side. The cool is (where his hide is) is around 80%. The basking one changes though. Without the basking lights on (before the timer turns it on), it...
I understand that a lack of humidity and a poor diet can cause pyramiding. But what is the (lack of a better word) timeline for it? Like say would it show up 2 weeks after what affects it? Does it take time to show? I moved my tortoise about 2 months ago. And he has small bumps on his shell...
I have a spider plant at my office. Once in awhile I will cut the babies off and grow them to the point where I can put them in the cage. I have to do this often as Arthur loves to just sit on top of plants. As they get older, they become bulldozers that run over everything.
I just want to say thank you to everyone on here. We have a huge collection of knowledge and we are all sharing it with each. The end goal is to better ourselves with the tortoises in mind. Most pages on social media are very aggressive towards other tortoise pages. But not here. So thank...
Here is roughly the final project. All I need to do is: use another heat probe for the cooler side, play with the temps/humidity to what it needs to be. Add his tunnel and dishes (he is using them now). When I make the bigger one in the future. I plan on doing things a little different.
I just finished the foam, caulking, and bedding mix on the walls. The foam wasn't the greatest, but the dirt fixed it. The only exposed foam parts are on the top where I couldn't get to. Now all I need is the glass install and to fix some holes I made in the top, and the Frankenstein project...
Yeah I found out about how much the foam expands the hard way. I got the one that is used for big gaps...wrong to do. And I also burned two of my fingers while using the hot knife to cut it. And on top of other parts I have to redo. Didn't expect it to be so much 'fun' lol
