Would like advice - interesting parasites

Hi there ?. Vet tech and breeder here. Is your tortoise showing any signs of intestinal parasites? How do the stools look? As stated above pin worms are very common in all reptiles and unless symptomatic or high numbers are seen good reptile vets do not typically treat for them. Flagellates...

How much for an adult female Sri Lankan Star tortoise?

Finding prices and adult breeders is not an easy. I agree with a price around $4000-$5000 for a proven breeder female. However you will need known lineage as well for that price. Lovely tortoise.

    Fecal Impaction, substrate dilemma!

Hi Lauren. As a vet tech I've seen many issues with constipation, obstruction and GI perforation with various substrates. For this reason in my indoor habitats I only use pure coconut coir substrates. (Just to clarify - not the stringy fiber stuff for birds and make sure it doesn't have perlite...

    Is my tortoise dead?

Unfortunately I do not have a good way of knowing what caused it but this is normal involuntary body behavior at the time of death. We see this exact thing in all species when they are euthanized. The bladder muscles relax and release all the urine stored inside, the extremities will also relax...

    Constipation in star tortoise

Tortoises are known to eat their poop. The recommend foods are great natural laxatives (opuntia cactus and aloe) as well as high in water content. With these and soaking daily you should see some feces pass. If you don’t see any poop in a couple days I would highly recommend taking it to a vet...

    Sulcata neck swollen

Does your vet specialize is reptiles? Not just sees them but actually understands them? As a vet tech I would recommend having a good reptile vet lightly sedate the tortoise to take a FNA (fine needle aspirate) of the growth to send to the lab and see what it is on a cellular level. They could...
