I believe my 1yo Hermann just ate a cat hairball

I have a bunch. They’ve been growing in there for a year. I was inspired by someone’s enclosure I saw on here that was super overgrown with weeds and lush. There’s fountain grass, crab-grass, a big fern that send volunteers everywhere, jade bush, aloe, alyssum, strawberry rhizomes (they don’t...

I believe my 1yo Hermann just ate a cat hairball

Ha! I completely understand that, will do. :) I started a new job, and other things, but it’s true that once I dialed everything in in her enclosure and her growth was stable, I neglected to update here. I will show off her finished enclosure and newer pics. Her shell is getting a nice...

I believe my 1yo Hermann just ate a cat hairball

Thank you for the reassuring words. I did find animal poop near where she was in the pen, and outside as well, so there was definitely an intruder. I am working on extending her enclosure and building a cover. She still lives indoors, only comes out to sun in the enclosure when we are outside...

I believe my 1yo Hermann just ate a cat hairball

On a different thread I just saw @Yvonne G’s recommendation to feed a lettuce leaf coated with mineral oil to help things pass, I will try that now.

I believe my 1yo Hermann just ate a cat hairball

This is her soaking right now, in the pen I am in the process of expanding and covering. I am now feeling terrible that I didn’t check the perimeter before letting her roam. Argh!

I believe my 1yo Hermann just ate a cat hairball

Hi everyone, It has been months since I have been active here because things were going so well with Miguel. But I believe she just ate a cat hairball and am looking for advice on what to do. Soak her extra long daily and watch her poops for the next couple weeks? Or take her to a vet stat? I...

Pees in her food plate - toss food?

Hey all, This feels like a silly thing to ask but here goes nothing! Miguel has been peeing in her food saucer of late, while eating. I can tell it’s pee from the smell (smells a little sometimes but not always), and bc the water wasn’t in the plate earlier. I also caught her do it once, her...

    Help with Tortoise breed?

The tail spur is a tell-tale sign for a Hermann’s, no pun intended. A beautiful tortoise!

Here's a place to rant about people making up stuff about owning a tortoise.

Your advice is golden, to lose it would be so detrimental to the community. You have more first hand experience than most anyone here, and so many fun stories to share!

Here's a place to rant about people making up stuff about owning a tortoise.

I wish there was a United Nations of Animal husbandry that Tortoise Forum could lobby to get the word out on best practices once and for all!

    The start of Creeper’s enclosure!

It’s very cool that they are learning from the inside out what it takes to keep a tortoise.

In crisis my tortoise is dying please help

Oh no, I’m so sorry OP. The good thing is now you do have all the info you need for when you’re ready to have another. When you have the stomach for it you can work on perfecting your enclosure before your next baby. Wishing you well.

I need help telling someone to stop stressing my tort out.

Have you tried telling her just that? Sometimes you just have to let a person know they are doing something wrong in a simple and direct way. Rip that bandaid!

    The start of Creeper’s enclosure!

Very cool. My hubby is a lot of great things but handy is not one of them! I’m the one dreaming of powertools and a garage set-up, lol.

Can i touch and play with my baby Sulcatas?

Sharing my experience that my small daughter is not allowed to hold our baby hermann. I’m encouraging her to help in other ways. She helped me plant seeds for Miguel’s food garden for ex. She waters some plants. She helps me pick fresh leaves from different plants in the morning, and regularly...

    I bought some sulcata tortoises!!!

If it were me I would really weigh the pros and cons of creating two enclosures now vs adding more sulcatas babies (of unknown sex bc they’re babies), bc it’s not a guarantee they would be compatible sex-or personality-wise, and then you’d just have more sulcatas that need separate housing down...

Hi from new Russian owner! + questions

Look up the sections about - Enclosure size for an adult tortoise. - Food bowls - Diet (based on what is visible in the pic) Never used MVB or loose dry coir so I can’t comment on that. I will say that one of the goals with lights in indoor enclosures is to replicate the brightness of daylight...

    growing weeds for winter

The mallow seeds I had to stick in the fridge for like 8 weeks before planting!? Mallow is not my friend. I'm trying to find a variety of plantain that grows better than the broadleaf kind I had, that one is only semi my friend.

    growing weeds for winter

I have some seeds growing indoors (and some *trying* to), under one of those pink grow lights. That broadleaf testudo mix you can find on amazon grows nicely if you don't overcrowd the seeds and let it get big. I plant that in soil, not seed trays, and give it min 4 weeks before I start feeding...
