I received some awesome news this week that a picture I entered of a balloonfest here in Lycoming County won 1st place in the "Events" category of the Pennsylvania Wilds photo contest. Pretty cool when you realize over 2700 pictures were entered into the contest and only six 1st place winners...
Back in July my female Golden Greek laid 2 eggs. 1 egg hatched this week, and another has just started pipping yesterday.
Below are pics of Mom and eggs, and the new baby.
Hatching makes baby tortoises sleepy!
It's official! I'm hatched!!!
Greetings!
I have decided to sell my beautiful female Indian Star Tortoise (Geochelone elegans). I have had her for a couple of years and she is heavy, healthy, and eats like a horse. As you can see she is about 7 inches long and ready to breed. I was told she was CB and has laid eggs in...
Just like last summer my female Golden Greek has laid 2 eggs, which look to be fertile. She dug her nest on the hottest day of the week when it was 95F! As you can see I dug open the nest to take this picture and placed the eggs in the incubator at 90F.
Oops, mispelled, it should be "through my yard."
Nothing scary about black bears as long as you show them respect and leave them alone. I've encountered a couple and they always run away.
Look what came through my yard the other night... momma bear and her 3 little cubs!
Thank goodness I had my game camera turned on to capture these pictures!
As most of you have seen, I posted the sad picture of the quadruplets that didn't survive.
So here's a "happy picture" of their sibling that hatched a couple days earlier.
It's next to it's egg shell and a quarter to give you an idea of it's size.
As you can see, it's perfect in every...
The egg was normal size and I had no idea anything was wrong. It had incubated for about 60 days which is normal. Another egg from the same clutch hatched normally a couple days earlier and the hatchling is a bit small but perfect.
WARNING: The pictures in this post are very graphic and sad of quadruplets box turtles from one egg that did not survive.
I am only posting them because of interest from forum members as being educational from a biological view. Sometimes in nature unfortunate births can occur like this. I...
I had a sad experience today with what I thought was a normal 3 toed box turtle hatching. It started yesterday, but I noticed the hatchling looked a little deformed as it was half out the egg and struggling as you can see in the picture below.
I peeked inside the opening today and could see...
Put my Bushnell Trophy Cam inside a wooden box and right on my deer feeder and it took some nice close up video's of this black bear.
Turn up your volume to hear him crunching away!

Here is my 1 day old baby Golden Greek tortoise. It hatched yesterday and is a first for me. :)
This picture was taken this morning.
Yesterday, after hatching.
Mom digging her nest back in July. She laid 2 eggs and recently another clutch of two eggs.
Some of you might remember I posted that my female Golden Greek laid two eggs back in July.
Here it is 70 days later and my very first Golden Greek baby has arrived today. Very exciting for me.
There's even more good news in that the mother laid 2 more eggs a couple weeks ago.
Mom...
This is from a different game camera I have and is in the woods right behind my house. This is the same bear I posted pictures of.
The real kicker is when I realized by the time stamps on the video is that this bear appeared only 7 minutes after I had turned the camera on and went into my...
I'm looking for large adult female Russian tortoises for my breeding group. They must be 7 inches or longer. I am not looking for small females.
