    Haven't posted in some time!

Ronny is a Desert Tortoise and I am over in Southern Arizona. He was not very well taken care of during his youth, that is why his shell is deformed, and I am trying to make it up to him with good food and lots o' love.

    Haven't posted in some time!

I have not been on the site in a while - I forgot how useful it is to the care of my tortoise! Just thought I'd share my story real quick: During mid July I went to check on my tortoise, Ronny, and could not find him anywhere - he had escaped by climbing on some potted plants and making his...

    Ronny's new place

Oh alright sweet - I thought it probably wouldn't grow well in that area because its such dry dirt. But I will definitely try now. Thanks! Course when I had the Bermuda grass growing at my old place he didn't even give it a second glance - hopefully he will get use to it here.

    Ronny's new place

Moving back into my parents house; sad to leave my house of course but Ronny gets a much larger area. Just moved him today, so still working on the area - gonna grow tortoise friendly weeds, put a couple more places to hide - ya know, normal tortoise proofing! He is happy! -Maria and Ronny

    When it's raining...

Thanks for all the responses...seems like a debate between some - but because Ronny is not in the best of shape I will probably introduce him to this weather bit by bit. He has a couple places to go to get out of the rain - and all are rainproof (no flooding and such) and yeah the rain here...

    When it's raining...

It's raining here in "sunny" tucson - I brought Ronny in, put him in a paper bag filled with hay in the bathroom...was that the right thing to do? (paper bag lying flat so he can crawl out if he wants) I'm afraid he has never been in the rain before and the last couple times it has sprinkled...

    ideas for outside tortoise

I don't like to think about it but basically he did not get any type of direct light from a light bulb or the sun for a very very long time and was only being fed romaine lettuce. I try to look towards the future and think of the things I can do for him now : ) Here are some pictures of my...

My desert tortoise lives in my patio- which is just cement. I made him a little hut and for now have put a blanket and some old shirts for "burrowing" but I am wondering what I could make for him to dig in? and what type of dirt, soil, etc should I use for him? I need some ideas! Or is...
