My tort Terence I 'inherited' as his owner at the time/friend found him sat with one of her other Russians head in his mouth. There was lots of blood and several trips to the vet. Luckily little tortie survived and I Got Terence!! They had previously lived together for three years without any...
After speaking to my partners dad (my did guru) he's recommended that I put hardcore in the base to aid drainage, he's also going to help me build a few natural looking bit safe hides from stone... Somehow we're going to try and emulate a natural burrow, but that's still in the planning stage...
Part of it will have a gravel/stone surface, but great idea about the dog kennel, the edge is going to have a lip just haven't got to that part yet! I'm rather impressed with myself as my DIY skills are minimal :-) I've got some seeds from shelled warriors that I'll plant, wanted a couple of...
This is Terence's new outdoor enclosure, it's not massive but the biggest I could allow size wise due to the six of our garden, it's going to have chicken wire put across the bottom and then be filled with about a foot or so of topsoil... Allowing him to dog away to his hearts content... Can't...
This is Terence's weight chart since he came out of hibernation, after an initial increase it has gone down again??? I was just wondering whether this is normal?? He's eating/pooing/peeing fine and seems a happy little chap, just wondered if this was something others had experienced??
Well, the journey didn't seem to stress him at all!! Once arriving in his new outdoor house he promptly ate nearly a whole dandelion plant and then shut his eyes and soaked up the sun... So good to see. And the journey home seemed to not bother him either :-) thanks for all the advice
I guess it's a possibility but if I'm honest I'd rather bring him home with me, as there wouldn't be anyone around over night. it won't be every day, I'll aim for 3 times a week. I think every day would be too much!
I have a small enclosed carrier that I would transport him in, I'm pleased that this will be okay as I'm sure the pros will outweigh the cons as he'll have hours of proper sun each week! Also as I work with young adults with learning disabilities both my manager and I hope to include the guys in...
I only have the one tortoise... Little Terence! And he is just one of many pets! I have a dog, fish and horses, my partner and family think I'm crazy, is rather but something for them than myself. I just find caring for any animal well a massively rewarding experience. And it makes me happy when...
I live in a flat, and although Terence has short periods of time out in the garden it isn't always practical for him to be out there as I'm not allowed to put up any kind of enclosure... My manager has kindly said that I can put one up in the garden at work, so I was thinking a run about 5 by 4...
Dandelion flowers go down well, and hibiscus with mine, other than that mostly greens. I Just try to offer a good variety-mix it up and give different things on different days. Keeps them guessing lol
Well it's day 4 and Terence is still looking pretty normal, still eating and pretty active, so I guess all is well :-) have taken on board what you said about the vet!
