I'd be very interested to learn more about the different 'types' and locales of Cherryheads. Does anyone know of a source of reliable information on the subject? Other than adult size, is there a way to identify which 'type' a Cherryhead is?
I've come to realize my Cherryhead tortoise is definitely eating her own poop. I can never see any in her tank, even though I check several times a day, and I've caught her eating it before (at which point I immediately clean it up). Is this normal?! Does anyone else's tort do this?! Any way to...
I have an informal 'Godmother' for my Cherryhead tort. She's loves her, and has a stable living situation, and is obsessive about providing the best care for her animals. At the very least, she would find a very good home for my wee one.
If your tort is being sluggish, check to make sure your temperatures are right and you have the proper UVB lighting. I have a little Cherryhead hatchling and she's always trucking about in her enclosure :) It's so fun to watch!
This is quite possibly the most interesting thread I have ever read! Absolutely fascinating. I have heard of 'Failure to Thrive' syndrome in hatchling tortoises, but I've never seen it explained and supported with evidence. This explains so much!
I think they're beautiful, like living art. I love to watch them move, and eat, and watch me! I think the biggest allure is that they speak a different language than that of mammals. Many mammals have similar ways of expressing affection, fear, etc, and sensing their environments (eyes, smell)...
This looks phenomenal! I have a Cherryhead tort and have been wondering how I'm going to maintain the humidity properly here in dry, dry Alberta. I know you tiled it and used a sealant for the wood, are you worried at all about the wood rotting in the high humidity?
Your tort is a lucky girl!!
Thanks a lot for the info, and especially for the book suggestion! I've actually been wanting to ask around about a good book to get regarding their care. I bought a tiny manual, but I love having an encyclopedia on each species that I own :)
Hmmm. After some further research, I see that kale isn't horrible, but shouldn't be used regularly or a a staple. I'm still uncertain as to how much fruit she can have, and haven't been able to find anything about the sweet dumpling squash.
lol!! That's hilarious, I know I get funny looks just from picking them in my front yard and taking them into the house. I can't imagine the looks on peoples faces when you started gathering seeds! Maybe they thought you were a tourist?
Quick question - torts (such as redfoots) can eat all...
Hello everyone!
I'm a new owner of a loveable Cherryhead tortoise, and I still have some learning to do. I've read tons on online caresheets and bought a book on Redfoots, but there's still some things I can't quite figure out.
What different kinds of squash are good food choices? I know...
