    Frantic little guy

Hey guys! I have a Greek Tortoise named Carl and he has been acting pretty strange lately. While I know it is normal for tortoises to claw at the sides of the enclosures, he does it from sun up to sun down. It's very loud for my sake, and he seems kind of frantic. I haven't changed anything...

    Planter boxes

Hi guys! So, I'm planting an I door storage garden for my little guy and I could use some advice for the set up. He's a greek, so he is smaller. I need a planter box that is short enough on the sides to allow him to graze on it when he wants to. Is there any recommendations you guys have? I was...

    Worried about Carl

I have been away on a camping trip for several days and returned home to my poor little guy not looking his best. I don't know what's wrong with him. He has been eating, but no poops until today that I can see. I haven't seen him drinking water, but his water bowl is always filled with...

    Posing

Thought maybe some of you would be interested in this. He was holding still long enough while he was eating that I actually got to finish the drawing this time! Got a little frantic toward the end, but it's all the time I had. Enjoy :-)

    Time to explore

Carl spends roughly 20 minutes climbing up here with his missing foot. Then, after about 30 seconds, he climbs right back down. This happens about 3 times a day. He always comes over to me when he's done like "Mom, did you see what I did?!?!" :D

    Subspecies mixing

Hello again. Just a quick question. I have read in a lot of places that it is not ideal to mix different species of tortoises, but what about subspecies? And could 2 male Greeks potentially be happy in a shared space or even more than 2? I am currently looking for only 1 new addition, but in the...

    Another Carl Health Question

Hello all. Sorry about bombarding you with questions, but I am not only new at this but my tort also has several injuries that he's recovered from. It makes me a worried mom when something seems wrong. His scutes have been looking increasingly abnormal lately. I feed him appropriately and soak...

    What is he/she???

Hey, guys. This little guy is at one of the local pet shelters. Obviously not native to Oregon, so he/she must have had a previous owner. Anybody know his breed? He's not in very good shape and I would love to take this one home. I haven't met this one yet, but I do look forward to it and...

    How much food?

Hey guys. So I know you can't tell me the exact amount of food a tort needs, but could somebody give me a rough estimate? I have a 6 year old greek tort and he's about 5 1/2" length wise. I feed him a big handful of greens every morning and snacks throughout the day, but when I take him outside...

    Heat lamp issues!

I have had the same 100 watt heat light for Carl for almost 2 months now. Suddenly his basking spot is reaching up to 130 degrees F and he isn't moving out from under it. I've been having to check the temperature constantly and put him in soaks because he doesn't move out from under it unless I...

    Updates on Carl

So, I'm not sure if many of you read about Carl, but I bought him at a pet store because I saw he had been severely mistreated. Carl has 2 missing feet and a couple claws gone. For those of you who do know of him, he is doing well! Ditched the sand and am currently using a topsoil that's deeper...

    Uvb light yes/no?

My friend has recently acquired a snake and he has a heat pad for him but no uvb light. Do snakes require uvb lights? I know torts do, but torts are diurnal and need it for calcium intake. I am no snake expert, but I do not want him to be doing the wrong thing for his new little guy. Thoughts?

    Zany Zoo

Okay, so I had a very poor experience buying a tortoise at zany zoo. My tortoise was called a Hermann's tortoise but was actually a Greek. Also was told he was captive bred but he was wild caught. He also had pretty severe injuries from being housed in a tank with Hermann's and Russians. I...

    Carl has some issues...

My Hermann's is roughly 5 years old, just got him a month ago. He functions well except for one pretty significant thing. He has 2 little stubs instead of claws on his left front and back leg and his right back leg only has 2 claws. He also has minor shell damage that isn't too deep. I am a new...

    Newbie with Hermann's tortoise

Hello! My Name Is Emily and I live in Oregon, US. I have had my Hermann's for about a month now and I'm LOVING him! I do have questions though. I've done some research but not a ton. He's approximately 5 years old and was handled rough previously. He's missing all but two claws on his back...
