? about state laws

I have a question regarding other states laws about tortoises. A friend of mine is thinking about relocating with his torts. and needs to know if there is a site that lists different laws regarding permits and laws to what pets are legal and allowed. thank you for your help.

Your friend would need to reference the laws in both the origin and destination states. Each state is different and many, if not most, prohibit the export/import of native species.

It probably would have a lot to do with what type of tortoise. You can't remove native tortoises from their home states. As for bringing exotic tortoises across state lines...the african species have to have a vet certificate saying they are free of the African deer tick. Some states limit the exotic tortoises you can have in that state.

So, your friend is going to have to contact the Fish and Wildlife folks in his state and in the state he's moving to to get his question answered.
