Advice on which species should thrive in East Texas

Which species thrive best In East Texas (Houston). Hot humid climate. Planning on an outdoor habitat. Any advice would be appreciated. I’ve been looking At the Hermann’s tortoise but I’m not sure if it would be a good fit. Advice?

It would depend on the adult size you could handle.

You could handle a redfoot pretty easily with a heated house for winter

So, Hermann’s or Russian are not an option?

No the Russian is very hardy. Thriving here in VA with minimum 40% humidity in summer!
