Hi All. I know that this is an ongoing question/concernIMG_20141002_085934.jpg ... I own a male Russian Tortoise. His undershell is 4 3/4" and he weighs 344 grams. I am not relying on Petco's answer of 8 months; not possible and he is wild caught. Any ideas of his approximate age?

As far as I know.... You really just guess by its size and looks, but size may vary. If the tort has been fed food with high protein he will outgrow a tort on a normal diet.

I have two hermannis, one 16 year old and one whose age is unknown. Previous owners told me he was 2, but I think he's closer to ten. They got him from a pet store, and not much more is known about where he's from. Anyways, this guy is one or two cm. larger than the 16 year old. The larger tort was owned by a family who couldn't take care of him anymore, so I adopted him. I don't really know how they fed him, but I suspect something high protein because his shell is so large compared to my other tort.

So... Basically.... A torts size vary a lot if they are not fed the proper diet.

(If I'm wrong here, please correct me :) )

And you have a cute tortoise! :D
