RT Age

I got my boy from a kid who bought him from petsmart a year ago. I'm assuming that means he's wild caught. He has a pretty smooth, light shell, and I tried counting rings but I read that this isn't a reliable method of determining age. He has a vet appt tomorrow afternoon and he'll be getting blood work and everything. Is there something in the blood work that could give me a clue as to his age? Or is there no hope of getting an approximate age?

I was told mine was about 20 but seen as the pet a shop didnt know much about his husbandry needs im inclined to think they didnt know his age either!
