we received yesterday 2 magnificent Aldabras a male and a female the male is about 2ft long.
Boy are we happy campers.
I just wanted to clarify the diets for these guys.
We raise softbill birds so we have plenty of peaches and grapes in our fridge. They seem to love the peaches, grapes and plums along with their romaine lettuce, apple. sweet potato, banana and soaked monkey biscuit and corn on the cob.
Is there a problem with to much grape and peaches or any other sweet fruit? They have grass to graze but they chow down on the fruit.
Should we be adding any supplements and are we feeding the right diet?
Thanks guys, these tortoises have chaged our lives.
Much obliged for any input.
Aurelio and Dennis in north Florida.

Congrats! Ours browse at will on natural grass and weeds. We do feed Mazuri and some fruit.
Post pictures, that would be great!

I think too much fruit (more than a piece or two as a SNACK) is not good for a grazing tortoise. It may change the gut flora and fauna and cause a parasite bloom. Also, they really don't process the sugars in fruit too well, and get diarrhea.

Thanks so much for the reply.
I'll cut down on the fruit. Is veggies like sweet potato and carrots OK?
Should we worm them with ivermectrim or fenbendezol like we do with birds?
Is Mazuri tortoise diet beneficial? we have access to plenty of romaine lettuce and they have plenty of grass. They do like the fruit.
I'll send pictures as soon as I figure out how to do it.
We would like to find 2 more female youngsters to watch grow and eventualy place in the 3 acre field they will all live in.
I'm not a computer wiz.
Thanks so much again.
Much obliged

Here is hoping the picture goes through if it does I'll try wit more.
Thanks

That's a beautiful tortoise.

As to de-worming with Ivermectin...NO!!!

Ivermectin is extremely toxic to tortoises and it will kill them.

Sweet potatoe and carrots - ok
Fenbendazol - ok
Mazuri - ok
