Am i wrong in saying

That tortoises and turtles are different. Often when my friends see my tortoises they call them turtles which really winds me up as I says turles live in water and tortoises don't, they are completely difference animals. Am I wrong in believing they are completely different animals?

Technically a tortoise is still a turtle. So you are both right.
