Well as long as he's eating and pooping healthy I don't see a prob 123456. Babies do tend to sleep alot more and are less active than yearlings/adults. I myself am not a Sulcata keeper (will be one day!) but I think in general all torts are similar in the regard. And LOL dmmj

Have you got good enough heat and UVB for your baby? Babies are not as hardy as yearlings and adults, they tend to need more warmth. If you're given him the proper diet and proper heating, he should be A-OK :)

Mine definitely slept alot more when she was a hatchling then she does now....plus she still eats a bit, walks around, comes back for more...I think its how they do it in the wild, I think they have to graze a bit for food, as they probably dont often stumble across a dish with a mound of food in it too much :)...I think its an instinctive thing.

In the wild they walk and eat and walk and eat. It is normal for babies to eat and sleep. As long as you are sure his temperature is normal...85 degrees or so he is acting normal...

85F is for the overall temp....what is the temperature of his basking area? What brand UVB do you use? (wattage)

If your bulb is 50 watts, you do not have UVB on him....You should be using a mercury vapor bulb, like a Powersun or a Trex MVB. 100w is pretty standard for little desert species, but 125watt Powersun would work. If your sully is as small as you say it is, a few more weeks under a bad bulb and it will get a soft shell and eventually die. They need UVB (its what's in the sun's rays) to keep their shells hard and healthy.

Please post pics of your sully, and its enclosure. The bulb you have is bad. Seriously.

What is the brand? If it cost you LESS than 40$ its worthless. Lots of them have only UVA output. You need UVB. Your baby cannot survive in an indoor enclosure without it.

Those "basking" bulbs are not providing what your Sully needs.

I get mine from www.reptiledepot.com

I use Trex 100W for my Greeks with great results. You will need a 10inch lamp though, or the bulb will stick out. They are much bigger than those dinky UVA bulbs. You can buy the lamp on that site too. And the stand at the bottom of the lamp page, is what I use. Its awesome.

If you need more supplies, I suggest you get them there. There is a flat rate of 12$ shipping for unlimited products. I always try to buy as much as I can to make that worth it.

No prob. :D I love torts, and remember that new feeling well. I originally had one of those crap UVA bulbs. I ended up spending around 85$ total on one workable bulb for my first ever tort, because of the 20$ I wasted on that first petstore bulb. Half the people working in those stores don't know diddly. Its a shame...but you will learn a lot here. I sure have!
