i have had a baby box turtle since last summer, I have always had aquatic turtles this guy or gal was given to me by a co worker i have done my best to provide the best care. i really dont know much about box turtles though. he was eating fine, he actually would eat mealworms out of my hand but it seems like as the weather changed (i'm in western NC) he stopped eating . thing is he seems fine he just sleeps almost all the time is it some form of hibernation? because when i check on him he seems to look at me like why i are you bothering me . also because he stopped eating from my hand i started leaving the mealworms for him now i have black beetles living in the enclosure is that safe? it seems to be ok im just concerned because hes still quite small. I have tried fruit, vegetables he just doesnt eat as far as i can tell Any suggestions? thoughts ? thank you

Chances are he’s too cold either by day, by night or both.

There are 4 important temperatures in tortoise keeping
- Directly under the basking lamp at tortoise level
- Overnight minimum
- Ambient warm side
- Ambient cool side

What are these temperatures?
