i'm not sure what this is called. can my russian eat it? i also have frisée, which looks similar to this but this one has some dark red.

This could be red frisee, if you've got it from a grocery store. Some lettuces are sold in green and red varietes like lollo rosso (red leaf lettuce). So it's safe to feed.
