Hi,
I just got a baby Sulcata. My heat lamp and uvb light are set on a timer for 12 hours. Should I also have a ceramic heat emmiter on during the night when the other lights are off? I just don't want him to get cold. I live in LA and its pretty hot right now during the summer so I wasn't sure if I should have one now or if I will only need it in the winter.

A baby tortoise benefits greatly from having high humidity, especially a young sulcata from what I read on here. That being said your temp shouldn't go much below 80, if at all below 80 with high humidity or it can cause respiratory infection. So you will need over night heating if your temps go below that at night.

The lights switched off and it is 10:18 p.m. here and the lowest temperature is 74 degrees in his enclosure and some nights we have the air on so I assume I need the ceramic heat emmiter going all night then?

The lights switch off at 8 p.m.

I have my lights on timers but my CHE is on a thermostat. This works the best. It is set to 80F so I know for sure that my enclosure will never drop below that and won't overheat cuz it will turn off.

I'd recommend you do the same.

Get a CHE and thermostat and set it for 80°..

So as long as it is at 80 it is ok? Can it be above that too or does it have to be a certain degree at night?
