Chalky substance on Boris's shell

Boris has a chalky substance on his shell. It rinses off or rubs off but comes back. His shell isn't soft. We're in Los Angeles where it's hot. Should I be concerned? Should I do anything? Thanks!!

It looks like he's rubbing up against the white on that pot next to him. Nothing to be concerned about.
