Concerning MVB...

So I had a quick question concerning mercury vapor bulbs...

It has nothing to do with using the coil ones but more with pricing stuff. Most local hardware/department stores sell MVBs and I was wondering if it was necessary to get the ReptiSun brand or just brands tailored specifically for reptiles. Would it not be okay for me just to purchase a MVB bulb from Lowes or Home Depot? And if so, what Wattage would be the best?

The hardware store ones do not produce the spectrum of UVB needed by our tortoises.

This is one of the very FEW cases where we actually need "pet" type items over what can be found at a hardware store.
