??cuttlebone consumption??

I was wondering what a normal amount a tortoise will eat off a cuttlebone at one time.The sulcata i found a week ago just ate over half of a 5 in long bone in less than 20 minutes.Is it possible that he had been that calcium deprived in a little over a week? Or do you think the previous owners werent suppyling enough? any thoughts aprreciated.

Mine go in spurts, sometimes they chow it down and then wont touch it for a long time. What size is your tort? What is the shell condition?

if found him lke a week and a half ago in the middle of the road with a piece of his shell missing http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz108/SophiazDaddy07/2009056.jpg He is about 11 inches long.Its a sulcata tortoise.

If you rescued him then that makes sense that he needed a little extra calcium! Poor guy.
I've heard many people have similar experiences as Missy with their tortoises- they'll ignore it for a while and then randomly go crazy over it!
