How does a tortoise know to eat it? Like does it sense it is lacking that in it's diet so it takings a nibble. Is it like a pica thing. I recently got a cuttlebone for Rolo and he uses it. I hear him taking a bite. Then just walks away. I would get those for my parrot and never once did he munch it. So now do I not need to provide other calicum supplements? I would dust his food but he stopped eating it dusted. So on a whim I got a cuttlebone. Can they over do it and eat too much?

No they can not over do it. Sometimes they eat al lot of the sepia and sometimes not. They do know themselves when they need it. So it is best to always have the sepia available for your Tortoise.

I also use Repti Calcium with D3 and Reptivite vitamines with D3 of ZooMed for my Tortoises.

As long as you give your torts UV light the tort will make all the D-3 it needs .
Cuttle bone is ok as long as your tort don’t try to swollow to big of chunk !

Personally, I have an Elongata so he won't bask as much as other species. That is why the extra D3.
