Dragging food to water?!

My two year old leopard tortoise keeps dragging his food into his bath water dish, is there a reason for this?! Or is he just being silly!?
Just trying to understand if he is trying to tell me something or not

It might be something way back in this tortoise's geneology where the tortoises went through a very dry period and they could eat the dry stuff better if it was wet. I think this is evolution at its best! Something like the chimpanzees that learned how to use a stick to poke into the holes in wood to dig out the worms.

Does the tortoise still eat the wet food? If so, it only bothers you, not the tortoise. Let him do it.

My leopard once in a while drags his food dish into his water too. However, this is after he has eaten the food

My Redfoot does the same thing.. Every now and again he will drag it into his water and come back later to eat it
