I was talking with a buddy about tortoises, imagine that, and one anecdote that came up regards the transfer of his radiated from an indoor/outdoor husbandry regimen, to outside all the time with a heated house.

In the indoor/outdoor scenario he fed Mazuri when they were inside and they grazed when they were outside. Other foods were offered in both locations.

Now that they are outside, he offered the Mazuri on an outside feeding location along with there pick as they choose graze, and other foods. They stopped eating the Mazuri. Then on a lark of inspiration he offered the Mazuri inside the night house and they ate it.

So, when you wonder why they can end up picky at eating, where they eat what kinds of foods plays some role.

Just thought this was interesting to share.

My leopards are pretty much fed the same way. However I feed mazuri during the summer grazing months less often. When I do feed it, I dump it right onto the weeds grass so they get some of that along with the mazuri. They eat their mazuri no matter where or when lol.

My Redfoot does not prefer greens in his dish, and will pick around them. However if I take a large leaf of greens and stand it up somewhere in his enclosure like it's a plant growing he devours them within minutes.

Not the same thing, but if I try to "feed" my sulcatas during winter when the weeds and grass are up and running, they will literally walk through a tray of their summer favorites to go down the way and graze on the grass.
