Hey I just bought cypress mulch for my tort and now he wont stop eating it.. Is that bad? I've seen my dessert tortoises eat whole pieces of bark before and it never seemed to phase them. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Hi Matt:

You usually don't have to worry about impaction if you keep the tortoise well hydrated. And cypress mulch is not toxic.

Something I found helps a bit is adding a sprinkling of Miner-all (made by Sticky Tongue Farm) over the food three or four times a week.

Exactly, as long as they are hydrated they should be good to go. Mine have eaten most every substrate and never had any probs
