Free standing planter boxes?

Has anyone used these, or a variation of, for a tort table in the house? I'm looking for plans, but it would be this basic idea.

There are some big ones at my local garden store for almost $200. I'm hoping I can sweet talk hubby into making one. I just have to find the right plans.
