Hi,

I would appreciate it if a few people could take a look at these pictures of my Russian tort to determine the gender?

I know you are probably sick of doing this for newbies like me, but I keep changing my opinion... At first I thought it was a boy, then a girl, and now a boy again. haha

Also, the shell measures 5 inches long.

My guess would be female, the tail looks short like a female. A male's tale is usually pretty long.

Thanks!

That's what I originally thought, also because the shell doesn't come down very far. But the tortoise had the tail flicked to the side this morning. Is that normal for females to do, too?

Yea, they can both put it to the side. Sometimes my female will wag her tail from side to side as she walks, I have never seen my male do that I assume because his tail is too long, his is always tucked in on the side.

That's very interesting... I feel confident it is a she now, especially because I would assume the tail would be much larger since the shell is 5 inches, if it were a boy.

Haha! Thanks everyone!

She really has spunk! She's constantly rearranging her enclosure by digging and pushing stuff around. :)
