It’s Giving Day in my area, many, but not all, charitable organizations here have set up matching programs, where a special donor agrees to match all other donations up to a max cap; at our house it’s day where we pick some special, usually smaller groups that can use financial help.

Some of us work for companies that provide double matching to a variety of charitable organizations. You can double your dollars at any time, you just have to figure out your company’s protocol.

Everyone needs so much help in this pandemic but tortoises continue to need just as much support as anything else. Why not start at home with a donation to Tortoise Forum, which so many of us rely on? Right now the donation option seems to be tied to purchasing premium memberships; you’ll get a fancy icon while doing good! You can find the link for this in the small type in the bottom left of most forum pages.

Sometimes overlooked is the ability to add an automatic charity donation to eligible purchases bought via Amazon Smile. It’s not a ton of money but you will find many turtle and tortoise organization options to choose from. Find and select a charity at the top left of the Amazon Smile landing page. Be advised you have to pull up Amazon Smile independently when you order. Googling “just” Amazon is going to take you to the regular site (no donations).

There are many small and large conservation projects that can use our help too. Maybe your local rescue club or a large organization like the Turtle Conservacy. If it’s a decent size organization you may be ble to check their ratings on Charity Watch. This is an organization that tracks how much money goes into performing the actual work of the charity vs. how much gets paid to board holders. It can help you see how your dollars will be put to work.

The Tortoise Table is asking not to receive donations at this time.

I support the Galapagos Conservancy through Amazon Smile.
