Hey everyone.

It’s been a while since I posted but I’m hoping someone can help.
Yesterday while changing the water in the viv, I noticed some tiny white bugs underneath the water dish. After closer inspection I saw more of these bugs in the substrate and now I’m worried sick. Are these mites? Are they harmful to my babies? What on earth do I do about them?!

I use orchid bark as a substrate and have never had this problem before any advice would be hugely appreciated x

They are detrivores. The inevitable result of the warm, humid environment that’s good for your tort’s health.

They are completely harmless.

Make sure you pick poop up promptly and don’t leave food in place for longer than 24 hours.

Apart from that, there isn’t much you can do apart from introduce a few roly-polies to help control them.

Look under rocks and logs outside to find roly-polies.
