Help with id

So, I'm taking on this boy in a couple of days
Is he a Russian? The person I'm taking him on for was a little unclear/unsure whether he was russian or something else, and I am keen to give him the best care possible, but different species obviously have different needs. Any thoughts appreciated!

Yes, he's a Russian, but I can't know for sure if he's a HE unless I can see his tail.
