I have two Hermann tortoises, one male and one female. On a couple of occasions they have laid eggs, I have incubated them in a polystyrene incubator with the humidity at 70 and the temperature between 30 and 31. However we have never had any luck. I currently have 4 eggs which are 40 days old. Some were buried some where just laying on top. After noticing them I instantly took them out of the indoor enclosure and out them in some special incubating material. I set up the incubator for 12 hours before putting the eggs in. The temperature is at 30-31 however the humidity keeps flittering from 40-60. I have a pot of water in there with a bit of sponge to try increase humidity.
I would like to know if my eggs are fertile. Eggs 1 and 2, when candled seem to have a bright orange glow about them, 2 third of the egg seems darker than the other third. Egg 2 has a little black line in the 2/3rds of darker orange. I cannot see any veins as of yet. The other 2 eggs I can see the yolk but they are not dark orange like the others.
Some information would be amazing right now as I don't know if I'm doing this right.
THANK YOU!!!
