Hi Everyone,

I was wondering at which age/length do Hermanns tortoises become mature and can breed?
I have my 3 Hermanns since 6 years now and I have no idea how old they were when I got them (probably 1 or even less) and I have no idea about their sex either.
Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of them yet (they are in my parents house). They are in 2 separate enclosures at the moment as one of them was probably bullied by the others . I am not interested in breeding them but if it does happen without forcing them I will try to keep the eggs!! :)
Thank you very much for your help!!!

I don't know the subspecies: I got them from a friend with 4 adults Hermans. She founds the 3 babies in her garden (naturally hatched!) and she could Not keep them because of the dog so she gave them to me!!!
Here a picture of them.. I don't know if you can recognize the subspecies from this!!

Thanks,
Carlotta

One more question for you Hermanns experts...
Is she a Hermann as well??
I have been told she is a hybrid between a Greek and a Marginated...
But I am not so sure....
Could anyone help me??

Thanks,

Carlotta

They appear to be Eastern Hermann's, Testudo hermanni boettgeri. Close up clear photos of their plastrons would tell for sure.
The large female does not appear to be a Greek/Marginated hybrid. But it's impossible to tell what subspecies of Greek she is from the photo. Again, close, clear photos of her plastron and head shot would help greatly.

The Hermann's tortoises in the photos are positively Eastern Hermann's, Testudo hermanni boettgeri. The Greek tortoise is definitely not a hybrid between a Greek and Marginated. But it appears that it may be a cross between a Northern Mediterranean Ibera and one of the Middle Eastern Greek subspecies. This unfortunately now happens commonly in captivity.
