Hibernating a RES

How to hibernate a RES if you don't have a deep enough pond. Can he just dig down in the ground
(like a box turtle) and be okay?

Some of mine stay in the pond and some will get under the leaf piles above ground to hibernate,After they settle in for good I add more leaves on top of them and move them away from the outside walls. So I would say yes they can be treated the same as a box turtle, mine are, been doing it this way for many years. Len

Thanks so much Len! There is a lady here in town that is trying to decide what to do, and I wasn't sure what to tell her. I had done some research, but hadn't been able to find anything about that specific question!
