My new turtle is going to need an upgrade in tank size for next winter. I am planning on building an outdoor pond for the summer months. Can Res turtles hibernate in the cold north? I am in the north east and have a Res female.
If so I am not sure I am brave enough to do that but if it was possible what size pond is needed ?
I also wanted to know for an indoor set up for a female res is an 125 gallon tank large enough for an adult female res. when I build a pond and purchase a tank I want to set it up right for an adult so I don't need to keep upgrading . Thanks

It (the pond) has to be able to hold enough water that it doesn't freeze solid.

If I go with 125 gallon tank for an adult res female is that large enough? I would love opinions on filters and heaters for the large tanks and stock tubs. Any recommendations? I am reading up on books but they always speak in general terms with no real details. Thanks.

I love the skippy filter. Google it. I've made two so far and they are great filters for outside ponds. I'm not familiar with your weather, so I can't tell you what size wouldn't freeze solid.

I have a 300 g Rubbermaid stock tank with a homemade Wendy Filter. Please google Wendy Filters. It's great!!!
