Let's see...Today is October 8th and my 5 Hermann Tortoises are starting to slow down. They are eating only half of what we give them during the summer. So we know that they are getting ready to hunker down here in Mesa, AZ. This is our second hibernation with them, last year we were kind of nervous. But better prepared this year. For all you newbies who have 3,4 or 5 year olds torts that are outside, they are smart, they know what there doing...DON'T PANIC, there okay. We'll see them again in early April...Good Luck to All :))

As a first-timer brumater this winter, I especially appreciate the "Don't panic" tone of this post.

Although... What the heck am I supposed to do with my life till April?

AW: Hibernation Time

I am a first timer as well, but Peter is a pro. That way I am not all that worried. It will be his first time in a fridge though! How cold is it where you are? I think Peter has almost completely stopped eating, but our temperatures are horrendous! I don't think it will go above 8-10° in the next week and I fear we might get snow soon. Yaaaay!

How long will you be hibernating them?

Well this is my second time. My Sonoran DT is slowing WAY down (I actually thought he went in to hibernation when I didn't see him for a week) Good luck to all you first timers!
