I am planning on getting a new enclosure for Speedy, my Russian Tortoise. Can you tell me if this one is okay because I really like it!

It's called the Zoo Med Tortoise House. The dimensions are 36x24x12. is it big enough?

It would be nice if it were bigger, but its ok for a temporary indoor habitat until the weather permits the tortoise to be outside in a larger area.

I wish I could make it bigger, but I don't have a lot of space in my house so I cant get a huge enclosure. :(

go garage sales and find a book shelf, turn it on its back and you have the same thing.. if you have the money, go for it, if not, try a book shelf. :)

The Tort Hutch was my first choice as well and as everyone will contest, a bookcase no matter how cheap is a better buy and you'll get more real estate per dollar.

Add some coats of polyurethane and it will look new and be easier to clean than that Tort hutch. You'll have to seal the wood anyway.

My local Reptile Specialist was selling their old bookcase for $20. 2X5 footer and 9 inches deep. Not bad. Can always add railings if the kids try to get out.

Put your money into the equipment like the right lighting and not a rabbit hutch modified for Torts. Keep looking at the enclosure pic for ideas.

According to your other post, this hutch would be your second choice.

I have, at most, 4 feet by 20 inches of floor space for my tortoise. Can I please have some suggestions on how to make the best out of that space?

You can find "put together" type bookcases (bu sh or sa ud er) to suit your needs for @$20. Then you'll need some 1/4" plywood to replace the cardboard backing. 1/2" is better so it will hold the weight of the rocks and less chance of warping. A simple card table can support the bookcase. Seal the wood and let dry at least a day after the second coat and your done.

Remember, Torts are for life.
