Hi
Beautiful tortie but that's A LOT of water in that soaking container...he is standing on his tippi toes and I don't think he looks mighty comfortable. It's enough if you put a half of the actual water amount, he can chill more and relax himself.

No, she's not standing on her tip toes lol, no matter the water level she likes to do this thing where if she's comfortable she raises up and down like she's settling in. if she's uncomfortable she tries to climb up the container walls lol

Hi :)
Picture looks like if she was to sit, water would cover her nostrils. Water level should be adjusted to a hight where the tortoise is sitting flat on its plastron. Water should cover area a bit above the line where plastron and carapace meet (a assume your soaking container is flat bottomed). If that was your case your baby would not be able to strike a pose like one on the picture. That's what I see. Not meant to be rude or something just pointing out a possible hazard.

I think it's different when you allow a tortoise to go in a pond/pool and he wants to go deep rather then put it in a steep container with deep water. Leopard swim but mine put in deeper water goes ballistic. He will float all right but will defecate and splash for his life. Different scenario when he can walk in/walk out freely in a small plastic pool.

Maybe it's just the angle of the photo, because she spreads her legs (especially the back ones) all the way out like they do when they're sunning themselves, ya know? And she sits until she wants to get out (usually after about 15-20 minutes), then she walks to the sides and starts scratching. lol
