...im still reading through it...
wow.. after reading this i'm glad i did.
i purposely planted white clover, among other things, in my outdoor pen. but we have an empty lot next door and its full of nice fresh untouched weeds. i occasionally go pluck some from there to add even more variety to my tortoise's diet. i occasionally took what i believed to be a different type of clover. one with yellow flowers. my tortoise ate them whenever i fed them. after reading this and searching more images on google i ran out there to check the flower...yup its oxalis. yellow wood sorrel. good to know..
so its ok to eat once in awhile?? my tort hasnt been harmed yet and he has had it a few times.
Thanks. Yeah. They dont eat a lot of it. But i am going to order some clover seeds online and some others. What are some good fast and easy growing seeds?
So we're all sure this a toxic plant for the torts to eat? Or is it's toxic classification based on consumption by mammals or some other organism. This stuff used to grow in abundance in my yard, and like many others I assumed it was a harmless type of clover. My sulcatas consumed virtually of it all long ago, a every now and then I see them get a little tidbit here and there if they can find it. Never had any issues I am aware of (of course they can't come over and tell me "my stomach really hurts after eating that")
I suppose it could also be the fact that my tortoises spend all day grazing around the yard and in the hedges, so the percentage of the daily intake would be so small ...maybe it doesn't matter... basically dilution?
Perhaps those who want to get rid of this plant could use a weed burner like this
After i read the link i posted..i stumbled upon a recent thread in the debate section by redfootsrule. I cant link to it from my phone or i would. It purposes that oxalic acid may not be so bad after all..
Worth a read you for you guys too. Id like to know what you think after reading that...
