Hi tort friends,

I'm planning out my new enclosure for my growing sulcata and I was curious if anyone had any knowledge on a Japanese plum tree. I'm thinking about building the enclosure around the tree but worried about the leaves falling into the enclosure. I live in north Florida so it would give him some shade from the sun.

Can he eat the leaves of a Japanese plum tree or would they cause harm to him?

Thanks!

I don't know the answer from experience, but was curious and did a quick google search. It looks like this may be one to avoid.

I couldn't find a listing on the tortoise table for Japanese plums specifically: http://www.thetortoisetable.org.uk/site/plants_19.asp?catID=596 , but there are other websites that do list it as one to avoid for reptiles:

This one does list the "Japan plum" for the same reason the tortoise table recommends shying away from plum trees: http://www.zutrition.com/reptiles-and-harmful-plants/

This one only lists "plum" trees and claims the foliage and seeds can be toxic for chameloeons.
