just got my RT "Carl". So far he is digging a hole to China in his corner of the box I built. Is this normal? I hope he doesn't dig at the corners all night and day. I'm guessing it's cause he is in a new place...new surroundings. Has this happened to you?

Congrats on the new addition!!! Give Carl a little time to adjust-- RT's love to dig and climb. We have had Charlie for almost 3 years and there are days that he just digs to the bottom and tries to go further! I try to distract him with other things like plopping him in his water dish. Please post pictures of Carl-- would love to see how he looks.
Again Congrats Lori!!!

Oh, me too, me too!! :D

Photos of Carl, please. I think Russians are so handsome and charming; I'd get one if I had the room for that 6-month quarantine and tortoises liked chumming around in pairs. ;)

How old? Where'd you get him? How big? I'll bet he's adorable, but I can't say for sure till I have proof! :p

My Russian digs for hours at a time sometimes...just settling down for the night! Kinda gets annoying when we're trying to watch TV. For some reason if we yell his name across the room he stops for a minute though, lol. Its very normal for Russians to dig. They love it! For that reason, I like to give mine a substrate at least twice as deep as he is long (as long as the enclosure sides are high enough, as they are also great escape artists). Best wishes.
