at the expo today, among other things, I bought a 160 watt Powersun MVB...

I plug it into a brand new 250W rated on/off switch fixture and it does that thing where it comes on bright and sunny yellow then the light appears to change to a more white/blue shine.

So I think, hmmm okay, hope this isn't bad (this has happened with my powersuns before) and then it keeps on like that. I take Mike out to graze a bit and I switch off the light.

About 30 minutes later I come back in and put him in and switch it back on. Nothing. I unplug it, play around with it, take out the bulb, put it back in, switch on again, nothing. I'm aware of the auto stay off function on the bulbs but time is passing and the bulb is cold and still not going back on.

Seriously? What bulbs do you guys use?

Is the vendor local?? If not try contacting the manufacture..MVB self ballasted are prone to failure when first fired up.. And are very susceptible to failure do to vibration..

I recommend Megaray..if you want a good highly efficient light that will last a while..go with the megaray externally ballasted kit..a little more than the power sun... But they have been known to last well over a yr and still put out loads of UV rays...

Bare in mind they are tough to get a hold of...But there product is as described..each bulb is tested individually before shipping to insure they are within parameters... And there burn in is low compared to other MVB..

Hey Pete. I have an Exo Terra Solar-Glo High Intensity Self-Ballasted Uv/Heat Mercury Vapor Lamp. I've had it for about 3mths, and it has been trouble free. I'm pretty sure that I got it from Amazon.com. Hope this helps a little.

One more thing to check...look at the center contact on the base of the bulb..make sure it protrudes far enough to make contact with the center pin of the fixture..
