Glad you found us, great place to get all the reliable info you need to raise a healthy cherryhead tort. Koopa is very cute!
Shelley and Tucker ❤️❤️ so cute! Rain is soon to be here in Florida, good ole hurricane season! Have you ever had to evacuate with your torts?

No to evacuation but I did live through hurricane Andrew in early 90's in S. FL, and help in cleanup work in Homestead afterwords. My Mom is still there, I hope it's just a tropical storm and doesn't develop into anything else. If you do have to evacuate, no big deal, it's not like you've got a full grown aldabra. Just pack your baby and some Mazuri up and keep him warm. Whatever it is it's going to be temporary so you should be ok without all the other stuff.

At least with hurricanes we have a bit of warning. I am sure it will be nothing large! I just worry about Louisiana, they are underneath it. Are heat packs advised for warmth?

Ah great info!!!! I will try out the human tub tomorrow.
Just remember that torts may be hosts to germs or parasites that we humans don't really want so diligence in hand washing plus tub sanitizing if that tub is shared between species. I probably would do it in the tub i use for bubble baths. Mine happens to be in the upstairs bathroom that is only occasionally used for a shower (so human feet are the only thing in it) but I still have a few cans of chlorox/lysol in there within reach in case someone needed to shower quickly. I don't chlorox it every day, only with reg hous cleaning after which I give the tub a VERY good rinse and time ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1472325124.949396.jpgto air out bfr bathing my grand-torts. Here they are.

ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1472325351.704928.jpg and here's another pic with some yummies out of which they will only go for fruit if any in their bath usually ignoring the greens or even raddicchio which they normally loveImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1472325508.534735.jpg they walk around, or just sit, they seem to enjoy the feeling of buoyancy

Figure out a way to keep her warm in case of power outage. It should be ok, it's not like it's winter now. Your goal is to not let the temps drop below 80F. They will withstand lower temps but it puts them at risk of getting respiratory infections which take a long time to treat so in my view, best to be avoided. Tucker escaped in February during his daily exercise outing. He was gone for 4 wks during which time our temps dropped to lower 30's! We found him and aside from being filthy he was ok but several factors made that possible which are all described in separate thread. My thing is: to not push my luck. Make things as optimal for them as I can. That first year is critical! Like human babies, They can get very sick very fast. We want to give them good foundation for their little bodies to be able to defend themselves to the fullest of their ability
