Hello,

I have a hatchling hermann, he is about one month old and he arrived today. I love him so much already I just want everything to be perfect.
I have the Mazuri LS formula and several types of dried herbs and flowers. My question is, if I alternate the mix of dried herbs/flowers with the Mazuri, is it okay if he eats that every day? Or should I be feeding fresh food as well sans mazuri?
I tried to grow some dandelions and clovers this summer but it's been really hot here and didn't work out. I could go to the grocery store and pick up some endive and radicchio, I also have some prickly pear cactus growing outside.

Sidetone: I know I just got him today, but he's really sleepy and hasn't moved around much. I assume that's normal from his young age and the stress of flying?
I hope so.

Thank you in advance for your advice,

Taylor

Hello, Taylor and a very warm welcome to Tortoise Forum to you and your new family member. :)
Variety is the key, and fresh is always better when you can get it.
Prickly pear pads and fruit are great and some grocery stores will even do dandelion greens and such.
Have a look at http://www.chelonia.org/Articles/nutrientanalysis.htm for some help.
It is quite normal for him to hide an sleep at first.
As you say, he will be tired and stressed, and afraid that you are going to eat him or that he is on something else's territory.
He will take a little time to come to realize that you are the food god and that this is his new safe territory.
Have a read of http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/beginner-mistakes.45180/

if you haven't already done so.:)
