RE: Not popping

I had the same problem with my leopard baby just a week ago. Finally, on the fourth day, he went. And when he went, HE WENT! It was like all four days came out in one soaking....lol. Just make sure he's getting lots of fibrous greens.

Sometimes they will eat their own poop. In case this isn't the situation, give her a nice warm soak in a larger soaking area, like the tub, where she can move around alot. Walking and squirming to get out will sometimes get things moving.

You need to feed a bigger variety of items. Just spring mix and tortoise pellets is not a good diet at all. Check out the tortoisetable.org for a varity of safe plants too feed and add as many as possible to the diet.

Yup...along with spring mix, ofter your tort carrot slivers, cactus pads, turnip, collard, and beet greens, and other dark green leafy veggies, and whatever weeds (dandelions, prickly lettuce, plantain and other broadleafs) grow in your area.

The tortoise pellets/kibble (mine like Marion Red Sticks, which one of our members, Coastal, sells) is a once a week thing, soaked and mixed with greens, but not more often than that, during the late spring/summer/early fall (in other words, outside time.).

OTOH, during the winter, when fresh weeds are hard/impossible to get, I feed mine dried weeds, mixed with soaked tortoise kibble about every other feeding (3X weekly). That's when kibble's really handy. Start collecting weeds immediately and hang 'em up to dry. When dry, stuff the leaves and smaller stems in gallon jars. You can also dry dark greens and fill up a jar w/ them the same way.

A really large elongated might go through two 1-gallon jars over the winter.

More variety, healthier tortoise...and a more "regular" tortoise, as well!!

Offer protein. In wild elongated consume much larger amounts of protein then other species.
